Here are 2 tools that you should always possess as a concealed handgun owner.  To start off I’ll say that you should wear a first-rate flashlight. The flashlight preferably should be at the very least one hundred fifty lumens and have a battery lifespan of at the very least 4 hours at max power. I picked up a couple at Home Depot ($7.99 for pack of two including six AAA batteries). The units I acquired are good for seven hours at 200 lumens. They are manufactured with a crowned edge called a strike bezel, which makes it possible for it to function as an in close weapon if desired. I procured one to wear on my belt, one for the car, one for the closet to remain next to my Glock 19, one for the girlfriend’s bug out bag, and one to save in the situation one of the others breaks. At $7.99 for 2 including batteries…why not?

If you are one of those gizmo freaks you can pick up the $155 500 Lumen Fury from a vendor called Surefire. Why do you need a flashlight on your person? Aside from the obvious reasons it can be a definite life saver.  A close friend of mine got stuck in an underground retail complex during a power outage. It was a total black out and no back up lights. He yanked out his trusty $8 flashlight and led himself and more or less 15 other people to safety. Once they got to daylight all of his followers were astonished to discover that he wasn’t a police officer. Just using a flashlight in a dark situation could proclaim to a potential assailant that you are not a target and it would be smarter to find an easy target.  I envision being able to flash my light on some guy in two hundred focused lumens and say, “Stop. Show me your hands. Stop right there.” It sounds foolish, but if it keeps me from having to use my primary, I’m in favor of it. I don’t always carry my handgun, but whenever I leave the house at night, I’m carrying a flashlight.

As soon as I started hanging out in these communities, I noticed that all of these concealed carry individuals are also pocket knife folks. I began clipping one inside my trousers pocket and man does this item come in handy. When I was 23 a friend of mine gave me a special edition Smith & Wesson pocket knife with my name imprinted on it. The razor blade is just about 3 inches and it is barely detectable when I have it clipped between my pocket. The other night out I was at Wal-Mart and spotted a pocket knife produced by Winchester that was merely $5…yes 5 dollars. It had a serrated edge so I bought it. My Smith & Wesson is more compact and doesn’t contain a serrated edge so I alternate carrying them.

They are instrumental everyday. Cracking open bags, cutting cordage, shearing zip ties, and the checklist goes on.  My girlfriend thinks I’m crazy (who isn’t) because I’m always daydreaming up situations where my flashlight or pocket knife will be essential. Do most of these problems ever happen? No. But I’m equipped if they do.
